Ethanol is a domestically produced alternative fuel most commonly made from feedstock like corn, sugarcane and cassava. It is also made from cellulosic feedstocks, such as crop residues and wood though this is not as common. Like gasoline and diesel fuel, Ethanol fuel and other ethanol-gasoline blends are adjusted seasonally and geographically to ensure proper starting and performance. For example, ethanol fuel sold during colder months often contains lower levels of ethanol to produce the vapor pressure necessary for starting in cold temperatures. Ethanol fuel blending must meet the ASTM specification’s requirements for winter temperature conditions. This can be done with relative ease by adding gasoline to the storage tank.

Ethanol has been a good source of renewable energy in many countries around the world. A gallon of ethanol contains less energy than a gallon of gasoline, resulting in lower fuel economy when operating your vehicle. The impact to fuel economy varies depending on the energy difference in the blend used. Ethanol also has a higher-octane number than gasoline, which provides increased power and performance

The production method of ethanol depends on the type of feedstock used. The process is shorter for starch- or sugar-based feedstocks than with cellulosic feedstocks.

OilPro Oil and Gas Limited has performed numerous studies and audits related to agro-industrial plants implementation especially in the area of ethanol facility plant, restructuring and energy efficiency improvement ranging from simple advice to fully detailed studies.
